It’s time for the wedding toasts! This can be a make it or break it time at your wedding. Guffaw-inducing hilarity may ensue, or totally aka-awkward moments that make you want to hide under your blush Shantung table linens. So, whether it’s tips you share with the best man and your MOH (you know, the people who without a doubt have the most embarrassing stories about you), or you consider these tips for making your own speech at the wedding, here are the wedding toast tips when it’s time for the champagne toast.

1. WRITE YOUR SPEECH.

None of this “I’ll speak from the heart nonsense,” because while your heart’s in the right place, you may get super emotional or even have had a little too much to drink to think quite clearly. Write down your speech. Make sure you get to say everything you really want to.

2. BE PREPARED WITH TISSUES AND WATERPROOF MASCARA.

Tears of joy, tears of laughter, tears of getting through the hard times together. Whatever it is in the speech that gets those tears flowing, make sure you will still look put together after!

3. KEEP IT SHORT.

No one wants to sit through a long speech, Everyone wants to eat and dance. Don’t keep the wedding guests from the bar.

4. KEEP IT APPROPRIATE.

Everyone loves crazy stories, but there is a time and a place and a grandmother that probably doesn’t need to be let it on some of those college antics.

5. RAISE YOUR GLASS AT THE END.

Ask everyone to join you in a toast. It’s a fitting and classy end to any wedding toast. *clink!*
